In a recent interview for her cover story with RollingStone Gaga ends with this quote:
“I operate from a place of delusion- that’s what The Fame is all about. I used to walk down the street like I was a fucking star,” she says, her voice rising. “I want people to walk around delusional about how great they can be- and then to fight so hard for it every day that the lie becomes the truth.”
Magic.

Our first interview has arrived! And it is with the tastefully talented and very handsome Max Vernon. A music student at NYU, Max garnered quite a bit of attention for his cover of Katy Perry’s “I kissed a girl”. He recently assembled his own home studio, so he has been cranking out music that has been festering on paper and in his head for months. I’m always the first to get a taste, and now you can too.

Where the Wild Thing is.
FG: How are you feeling right now in one word?
MV: Moot. I’m feeling Moot
FG: Is that a real word?
MV: Yes.
FG: Define it for the readers.
MV: It’s now your new favorite word
FG: What does it mean?
MV: It means in dispute or doubt
FG: Very well then, if you could describe your music with an adjective, an object and a person what would they be?
MV: Neurotic, honky tonk piano, Jesus
FG: Hahaha excellent. Some of your lyrics are pretty audacious, you make some bold statements for such a young musician, what would you attribute your know-it-all attitude to?
MV: I read too much and well when I was younger and shorter and less physically intimidating I was constantly harassed, and so as a defense I just kind of learned how to read people, dissect things. Usually as a way of coming up with clever insults people couldn’t respond to. I guess I’m still doing that a lot in my music, a fair amount of my songs are character assassination pieces.
FG: Right, I feel the same way about sizing people up.
MV: It’s a queer sensibility, we all need to learn how to “throw shade” to survive.
FG: Hahahah Paris is Burning! Yes!
MV: Yeah it’s funny because I saw that movie so much later in life, and I was like, OH that was what I was doing?
FG: Haha, I think I picked up on that whole shade thing in public school.
MV: yeah, that’s where YOU get it.
FG: Why do you make music?
MV: Cause it’s more productive than being a serial killer. Joking, joking. I make music because I couldn’t connect with people below surface level with my drawings. I think I make music because I’m looking for similar people in the world. I have a very specific sensibility which comes from my personal history and I think the kind of people that would gravitate towards my music, are the kind of people I need to meet.
FG: So you make music to make a connection with people essentially?
MV: Yeah. And also because I feel like music these days doesn’t really say anything of importance. A lot of my music is somewhat politically charged and I just felt like it was a better use of my time than just screaming at my computer screen. I think good music is pedagogical in someway. You can just summarize what I’m saying if that makes it easier.
FG: I know. Don’t you think there is also an importance in making music that expresses very private and intimate sentiments and experiences?
MV: Yeah definitely. I mean when I was going through all that bullshit turmoil. I would come home and listen to Joni Mitchell on my record player, and I felt understood. That was my therapy.
FG: I’ve done the same thing! With Joni Mitchell. She’s like the mother we never had.
MV: Yeah, music that is intimate and personal connects with people and tells them they’re not freaks. It tells them that other people have felt the same way, and that there’s some sort of resolution to be had. Unless the artist you listen to commits suicide.
FG: True. So what can we expect from you this summer Max?
MV: Well, I have a home studio now so I’m going to finally have a chance to record all my songs, “Wait and See” and “Your Girlfriend” are the first two I’ve recorded but I’ve got a backlog of like 10 other songs so I’m hoping to get a song a week, and finish some kind of debut CD, play a bunch of shows and get drunk and run around on the beach naked at 1am. And i turn 21 this sunday!! You can expect that from me this summer.
FG: Sounds like the perfect summer for a blossoming 20 year old queer musician to me. Alright, final question….
MV: Shoot.
FG: If you had to tell a different stranger the same thing everyday, what would it be, in one sentence.
MV: wow that’s tough. Ha.
FG: Take your time.
MV: I would tell them to love themselves and to smile more.
I’m an idiot and can’t figure out how to stream music on here yet. But to find and download Max’s music you can visit:

Richard Haynes, Founder and Owner of Urban Outfitters, and his co-workers/friends, have donated thousands of dollars to anti-gay rights campaigns and politicians. Urban Outfitters is heavily shopped at by the gay and straight community alike.
“Richard Hayne is the president of Urban Outfitters, a chain of clothing retailers. At a net worth of $1.8 billion, Hayne is the #262 richest person in the U.S. according to the 2008 Forbes 400 list, a ranking of the 400 richest Americans by net worth. … He founded Urban Outfitters, Inc. in 1970. … Today, the company operates over 200 stores under three brands: Urban Outfitters, Free People, and Anthropologie.
Ironically, the liberal tone of Free People and Urban Outfitters is a reflection of his more liberal early roots. However, Richard Hayne is one of the most conservative billionaires in America. Donating millions of dollars a year to anti-gay rights [legislators]. He was also a staunch supporter of California’s Proposition 8, which passed in November of 2008 taking away the marriage rights of same-sex couples.”
Richard Hayne has pulled “pro homo-sexual” shirts from shelves. Much of the gay community supports his stores, ironically. Stop supporting their stores!
NO MORE SAYING “WE WILL SEE EQUAL RIGHTS IN OUR LIFETIME”. WE WANT TO SEE EQUAL RIGHTS NOW!!!!!
Urban Outfitters supports stealing other people’s ideas and taking away people’s rights!! We are boycotting this company and fighting for what’s really cool – LOVE.
The FIRST EVER Urban Oufitters/Prop 8 protest will take place Sunday, June 7th at 1pm at the Urban Outfitters on Melrose & Stanley.
**THERE WILL BE A BIKE RIDE TO THIS EVENT!!!**
****This will be a PEACEFUL protest. Absolutely NO violence, destruction of property, defacement or unruly behavior will be accepted.***
We will be outside of Urban Outfitters, as well as handing out fliers along Melrose informing people on the issue and ways they can help with gaining equality for all!
Tell everyone you know!

I’ve been seeing these commercials on Hulu and on television. The first couple times I paid no attention to them. But then when I actually focused my eyes and stopped googling pictures of Jon and Kate Gosselin, I realized the stupidity being shoved in my face. The commercials are for Amp Energy Drink. And the slogan reads “Before every moment, there is a moment.”
Now, I’m not the kind of person to be offended by stupid shit that really doesn’t offend me. But if there’s one thing I HATE, is when advertisers or television/movie producers get lazy and assume I’m a complete idiot. Like they have with said commercial. I mean, it just wreaks of “For every action there is a reaction.” To say “Before every moment, there is a moment.” is RETARDED. Essentially that’s what TIME itself is. Bottom line, these commercials suck.
